Disney has stopped selling its higher-tier annual passes, which include Disney's "Pirate Pass," "Sorcerer Pass" and "Incredi-Pass."
The only annual pass still on sale is Disney's "Pixie Dust Pass," which is only available to Florida residents and has the most blackout dates when the passes can't be used.
The change only applies to new sales of the tickets, so if you already have an annual pass, you can keep it.
Disney stopped selling annual passes at the start of the Pandemic before they resumed them in September with a new structure that requires passholders to make reservations before they visit the parks.
Disney said when pass sales resumed that they may become unavailable in the future as the theme park continues, but no reason was given.
The resort will continue to evaluate when to make pass sales available again, Disney said.
A majority. A Morning Consult poll conducted in November shows that a majority of Americans are comfortable going on vacation, which is near a high of 65% from July 4.
What to watch for.
During the upcoming holiday season and into 2022, travel is expected to increase as people are more comfortable with traveling. The cost of airfare has gone up because of high demand for holiday travel and the holiday travel season will rebound to pre-pandemic levels. As the Thanksgiving travel period gets underway, the Transportation Security Administration reported it screened more people at airports Friday than at any point since the beginning of the Pandemic. The travel boom is expected to continue into next year, as a November Harris poll found that half of respondents have either made travel plans for the year or intend to do so, with the share of those willing to travel by airplane rising to 51% from 24% during the 2020 holiday season. Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said on the company's fourth quarter earnings call that the company's theme parks are not expected to see their share of international visitors fully rebound until the end of the year.
The key background.
Disney World and Disneyland changed the structure of their annual passes, as well as requiring visitors to make theme park reservations to manage attendance, as the parks changed their ticketing systems during the Pandemic. Disneyland has sold out of its highest-tier annual pass, and the California resort recently raised its ticket prices for the first time since the swine flu began. Disneyland and Walt Disney World will be closed until July 2020 and April 2021, respectively, as a result of the Pandemic. McCarthy reported during the fourth quarter earnings call that Disneyland attendance had increased significantly and that attendance at the Disney World theme parks had increased in the third quarter.
