Iman Shumpert puts sports world on notice with historic 'Dancing with the Stars' run

8:00 AM

That's Iman Shumpert, the NBA champion and "Dancing with the Stars" finalist.

He and partner Daniella Karagach became the first married couple to compete in the final round of the show.

Shumpert is the first ex-NBA player to advance to the finale of the DWTS.

He is the only one who is married to Teyana Taylor. We can't say for certain that Taylor played a role in the preparation of the 31-year-old, but having her in his corner certainly hasn't hurt.

He knows who would be primed for success if Shumpert's success led to more NBA brethren participating.

Kyrie Irving and Carmelo Anthony have good feet. He explained in an interview with Page Six that guys with good feet.

Before Shump attempts to join the likes of Emmitt Smith, Laurie Hernandez and Hines Ward as a Mirror Ball champion, we're looking back on his electrifying dance journey that both put the world on notice and made us acutely aware of our lack of coordination:

On to the finals.

Team DanIman, as Iman and Daniella are referred to on the show, impressed the judges with their jazz routine to "Dark Fantasy" by West. If you watch the above video, you won't have a single question about why they got a 38 out of 40.

If fans weren't going to vote for Shumpert, he shouted out his old teammate, James, with the "Silencer" celebration.

Hopefully the nod to King James will convince fans to support Iman in the final. He's going to need all the help he can get to beat the Siwa and her fans.

The dance is a break out dance.

Every hero's journey has a turning point that thrusts the main character on the path to fulfilling their destiny. We can all point to the "Horror Night" dance and say "this was it" if Shump captures the trophy.

The contemporary routine was inspired by the horror movie "Us" and was performed to a song called "I Got 5 On It". The duo got into character by wearing red jumpsuits similar to the ones used in the movie and delivering haunting facial expressions and mannerisms.

The team's first perfect score of the season was given to Shumpert and Karagach by all four judges. The judges gave a lot of praise.

Carrie Ann Inaba said that you transported them to another world. "My mind was blown, it was perfect."

The dance is a routine that people will watch over and over again, according to the judge.

"It was your masterpiece performance," said judge Bruno Tonioli.

The fans are talking.

The judges were not the only ones who enjoyed the duo's performance. Fans of the show and NBA superstars alike reacted to the routine.

The guy we were talking about had thoughts.

Man my G, he's in his f'n. LFG. Don't try to front, just respect the conglomerate.

That's pretty much how it ends.

James' former teammate didn't notice his support. Shump was quick to shoot a subtle shot about potentially joining King James and the Lakers.

I'll be in La still once I get a shot at this mirror ball.

Anything is possible if J.R. Smith gets a ring in 2020.

Most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the time, most of the

There are many differing opinions on what qualifies as Shumpert's best work. Someone might ride for "Rolling in the Deep" or "Hello", but others will vow her heartbreaking transparency on " Hold On" puts the new track in a league of its own.

"Queen Night" paso doble to "Another One Bites the Dust" is an excellent paso doble, but the "Horror Night" performance and semifinals jazz routine earned the most critical praise.

Did we just compare Shumpert the dancer to the artist? Yes, we did. Go with it.

Shump has range.

Team DanIman's range was put to rest when they performed a redemption tango to "Telephone" during the semifinals. The same night they performed the "Dark Fantasy" jazz routine? Exactly.

We won't pretend to have a lot of ballroom dancing knowledge, but if the experts in the comments section of the "Dancing with the Stars" YouTube page are to be believed, the duo demonstrates excellent connection despite their height difference, the choreography is outstanding and I.

Despite a star-laden finale, the Mirror Ball is hoping to bring it home to the sports world.

He didn't come on the show to lose. He will have to bring his A-game to defeat Siwa.

"My daughter might vote for her," Shumpert said with a laugh.

Taylor had one piece of advice for how her husband can win on Monday.
