Android Messages update handles Apple iMessage reactions properly

An update to the Messages app on the phone allows it to properly display the reactions to messages.

The update addresses a long-standing issue that occurs when users of Apple's iMessage service chat with friends using the Messages app on the phone. When an Apple user responds to a message on an other device, it appears as a separate text message on the other device.

The old method created a message for each reaction.

The new approach is very clean.

The message flow is a lot simpler after the update. Screenshots posted by 9to5Google show how the emoji reactions appear to be attached to the text, as if they were sent by another user. The popup says that it has been translated from the iPhone.

It seems that the reactions sent from the iPhone appear to be different from the ones on the other platform. The heart symbol appears as heart-eyes on the phone's screen.

We tried to force the emoji reactions to display in our own tests, but we were unable to because the feature was not widely rolled out. Even if it is still a far cry from being able to send and receive messages in the same way on the other platform, it should remove a small point of irritation in the communication between the two.
