AOC says progressives' help was not wanted in the Virginia governor race, which the GOP won: 'Not a single person asked me to send an email'

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she didn't help in the Virginia governor's race, which was won by Glenn Youngkin.

In an interview with The New York Times, the progressive New York congresswoman said that their help and participation was not wanted or asked for before the Virginia elections.

She said that some House members with close relationships to their political base are viewed as a liability.

I think it's sad. She said it was a mistake. A big youth turnout collapsed. Not a single person asked me to send an email.

She continued: "Then they say, 'It's our fault'." I think it was made clear that we were not welcome to pitch in.

Some Democrats blame progressive messaging for electoral losses. Progressives argue centrists aren't doing enough on-the-ground campaigning.

The Virginia governor's race was seen as the biggest test of the Democratic party's strength since they won back the White House and the Senate.

If the $2 trillion social-spending bill does not pass, trust between progressive and centrist Democrats will be broken, according to The Times.
