How much does it cost to buy a guest card?
There are no further taxes or fees when you purchase a mile from Etihad Guest. That includes any bonuses or discount. If you maxed out the 70% bonus, you would receive 170,000 Etihad Guest miles at a cost of $2,000, which is a rate of 1.18 cents per Etihad Guest mile.
This is the best promotion we have seen so far this year. It is possible to buy Etihad Guest miles for .
How many guest miles can you purchase?
Members of Etihad Guest can only purchase 100,000 miles per account per year. The exception is the Etihad Guest Platinum members, who can purchase up to 150,000 miles per year.
It can take up to 72 hours for them to post to your account, but they usually do it much faster than that.
You can redeem miles for business class.
The mileage purchases are not counted as airfare purchases for the purposes of credit card spending. If you want to reach minimum spending, or if you want to maximize your return on everyday spending, you should use a credit card that maximizes your return.
The Capital One Venture rewards credit card has no foreign transaction fees and offers 2x miles. If you want to maximize everyday spending, the Chase Freedom unlimited card is a good option, but the cards have foreign transaction fees, so it wouldn't be a good option.
See this post for more on which credit cards are best.
Is it worth it?
There are a number of good ways to redeem Etihad Guest miles, since the airline doesn't belong to any of the global alliances. Here are some of my favorite ways to redeem the miles.
There are many other redemption opportunities, but they are just a few examples.
You can redeem miles for Royal Air Maroc business class.
How much are the guest miles worth?
Everyone values mileage currencies differently, but I value the Etihad Guest miles at 1.2 cents each. I value points conservatively, and there are many ways to get more value from guest miles.
Do the guest miles last?
If you have at least some activity once every 18 months, you can keep your guest miles. The expiration date of your miles would be reset if you earned or spent them.
What other ways can you make money?
The cost to purchase guest miles is attractive, but there are many other ways to earn them. If you have a credit card in the United States, you can transfer your miles to Etihad Guest with Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One, and Citi ThankYou.
Some people may prefer to buy miles themselves rather than transfer them.
For those who don't have access to lucrative credit cards and who would rather pay 1.18 cents per mile than transfer points, buying Etihad Guest miles could be a great deal.
You can redeem miles for first class.
The cost of a mile is 1.18 cents, which is 70% of the cost of the bonus. Premium cabin redemptions could benefit from that deal. I recommend only buying miles with a specific use in mind, since miles do devalue over time.
Does anyone plan on buying guest miles with this offer?
