President Joe Biden will have the support of liberals in the future, according to Rep. Ro Khanna, a leading House progressive who served as a national cochair of the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign last year.
On the heels of a Washington Post report that Biden will seek a second term in the White House, Khanna said that progressives would stand behind the president.
The California Democrat told the newspaper that President Biden will get a lot of support when he runs for reelection. "He will have mine."
There have been many questions over the state of Biden's candidacy, but the report seems to squash them.
Biden has moved forward with his legislative agenda, recently signing into law a bipartisan infrastructure bill which will fund much-needed transportation projects across the country and working to pass a nearly $2 trillion social-spending bill that will make critical investments.
Progressives had hoped for a $6 trillion bill earlier this year, but Senate Democrats settled on a $3.5 trillion framework after West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin objected to paid- leave provisions.
The Post reported that there is "little sign at the moment" of an emerging liberal threat for Biden, with many lawmakers who were supportive of the president.
The chairman of Our Revolution told the Post that a candidate who wants to run to the left should use their political capital to advocate for change.
He told the newspaper that there's plenty of work people can do without challenging the president.
"If he's not running, there will be progressives, at least one," he said.
