One Piece Celebrates 1000 Episodes With a Throwback OP and a New Film

Eiichiro Oda's pirate comic One Piece has been around for a long time, just a little bit longer than most of its fans have been alive. The 1000th episode of the show brought back the very first OP from alllllll the way back in 1999 during the "East Blue" arcs.

The Straw Hats have grown a lot and been through a lot of shit since they started their journey to reach the Grand Line, and Hiroshi Kitadani's "We Are!" still fuck. One Piece has been around for so long that it is pretty impressive. The 2004 FoxBox adaptation is a fascinating mess and the jury is out on the upcoming Netflix adaptation, so hats off to y'all. If you felt safe, you should catch this episode in theaters.

Funimation and Toei Animation did more than just redo their original opening to celebrate One Piece's big day, they also announced a new movie. One Piece Film: Red will feature the Straw Hats on a collision course with Red the Aloof. It looks like the film will involve the pirate mentor, Shanks. It should be exciting to see what action the movie comes up with, as the movies are generally pretty good. It is expected to be released on August 6, 2022.
