Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: Man Utd sack manager with club seventh in Premier League

Last updated on 6 minutes ago.

The Manchester United have sacked their manager.

The club is seventh in the table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea, and have lost one of their past seven matches.

The first-team coach has been put in charge of the team for Tuesday's game.

United said that they had reached a difficult decision.

Was it all down to Solskjaer at Man Utd?

The past few weeks have been disappointing, but they should not obscure the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

"Ole leaves with our best wishes for the future and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

His place in the club's history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a manager who gave us many great moments. He will be welcomed back at Old Trafford as a member of the Manchester United family.

Michael Carrick will take charge of the team for the next few games, while the club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season.

After the trip to Spain, United face two more league games.

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho on an interim basis in December.

The Norwegian was given the job full-time in March of this year and signed a new deal with the club in July of this year.

More to come.
