The club confirmed that Solskjaer has left his position.

The club's owners, the Glazer family, were left with no choice but to part ways with Solskjaer after the club's fifth defeat in seven games.

The club said that Solskjaer had left his role as manager.

"Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision." The past few weeks have been disappointing, but they should not obscure the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.

"Ole leaves with our sincerest thanks for his efforts as Manager and our very best wishes for the future." His place in the club's history will always be secure, not just for his story as a player, but as a great man and a Manager who gave us many great moments. He will be welcomed back at Old Trafford as a member of the Manchester United family.

The club confirmed that Michael Carrick, who was part of Solskjaer's coaching staff, will take charge as interim manager.

The owners of the club and the executive vice chairman of the club had a discussion on Saturday night about the performance at the road. Matt Judge was involved in talks about compensation costs for the manager, as well as which of his staff would stay on at Old Manchester if he were to be dismissed. Solskjaer had signed a new contract at United in July of 2021, which ran until 2024 and had an option for a further year.

Sources had told ESPN that Solskjaer was going to leave the club after the poor start to the season, which included a humiliating home defeat against bitter rivals. Manchester City dominated Solskjaer's United in a 2-0 win at Old United before the international break, and theWatford debacle sealed Solskjaer's fate.

Solskjaer had been in charge since March of 2019. He enjoyed some success, including setting an English league record 29-match run away from home, as well as securing successive top four finishes for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013), but his tenure included a mixture of devastating results and a failure to secure a first trophy since the year

Solskjaer oversaw a 6-1 defeat at home to Spurs last season, as well as a 6-0 loss at home to Liverpool. The Norwegian's best chance of silverware was ended in the 2021 Europa League final as his side lost to Villarreal on penalties having been eliminated in the group stages of the competition earlier in the season.

The summer of recruitment, which included the arrivals of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and CristianoRonaldo, increased the pressure on Solskjaer to start the season well.

Manchester United has had a poor run of results.

Solskjaer left United after a run of one win in seven games, with the club seventh in the table and 12 points adrift of the leaders.

After the loss to City, the United manager said that he and the club had come too far and that they had taken a big step backwards.

Since Ferguson retired, the club's greatest manager, the dismissal of Solskjaer is the latest managerial mistake.

The formerEverton manager was sacked 11 months into a six-year contract after his first season in charge. The man who won the FA Cup at United, Louis van Gaal, lasted two seasons before he was dismissed. Solskjaer was appointed as a temporary coach until the spring of 2019, when he will be given a permanent deal, after Jose was sacked in December.
