During Obama's presidency, the Democratic politicians were often recognized for their "bromance," with the two men developing a close working relationship after running against each other early in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary campaign.

After his speech at the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004, Obama became a national star, catapulting him to the party's presidential nomination in 2008.

Biden, who had served in the Senate for 36 years, was selected by Obama as his running mate, which greatly aided the ticket's foreign policy knowledge.

The Obama-Biden ticket defeated McCain in the fall of 2008 and went on to win the election.
