Ben Roethlisberger is back.

The quarterback will be activated to the team's 53-man roster after passing the league's concussion protocols.

The team expects Roethlisberger to start against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night.

Roethlisberger needed two negative tests to exit the protocols after he tested positive for COVID-19.

A year ago, Roethlisberger missed a week of practice as a result of a teammate testing positive. He threw for 333 yards and four touchdown passes in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals on the Saturday after he was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The coach said he would leave a light on for Roethlisberger, but that the team would design a game plan around Mason Rudolph, who started for Roethlisberger against the Detroit Lions, and proceed as if he would be starting the Sunday night game.

"He's been injured and had personal discomfort in the past over the course of the 15 years that we've worked together," he said. We'll leave the light on for him because he always answers that bell.

Roethlisberger was involved in meetings all week and kept up with the game plan through virtual meetings. The quarterback told him he was feeling better, as did the running back and center.

Canada said he had talked to him every day. We talked about the plan and what we were thinking. He's met with Sully every day and gone through the details of those things.

He's preparing like he's going to be there. It's the same as last year. It's all about zoom meetings. We have practice at that. He's very much interested in what's going on.
