Tesla app outage that led to hundreds of drivers being locked out of their cars is being resolved, Elon Musk says

The company's mobile app malfunctioned on Friday, causing about 500 owners to be locked out of their cars.
The power went out at 3:33 pm. Downdetector says that it will be at 8 pm.
The editor of Electrek, Fred Lambert, reported that he was unable to connect to his car through the app.
Some drivers addressed the problem directly to Musk on the social networking site.

I'm experiencing 500 server error to connect mytesla Model 3 to my app in South Korea. One user wrote that it seems like this is a worldwide issue.
The owner of the company should be coming back online now. Looks like we may have increased the amount of network traffic.

We will take measures to make sure this doesn't happen again.
The company did not respond to the request for comment.
The mobile app is more convenient for owners of the car to use than traveling with the key.
The key is still the primary way of using the car according to a representative for the company. Customers should always carry it in case their phone goes out.
Model 3 owners can use the "phone-as-key" function to get their car unlocked. The owners would still be able to use this service if the app is down.
In the past, the systems have had problems.
Customers were left stranded after the app stopped working. Insider's Graham Rapier reported last September that some customers were forced to use their physical keys when the network appeared to go down.
