President Joe Biden said Thursday that the United States was considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics over China's human rights abuses.

Biden told reporters as he hosted Trudeau in the Oval Office that the US is considering a boycott of the Olympics in February.

The U.S. and other nations send high-level delegations to the Olympics. The American contingent to the Summer Olympics in Tokyo was led by the first lady, and the second gentleman led the delegation to the Paralympics.

Some members of Congress have called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics because of China's treatment of Uyghurs. American athletes would not be affected by the boycott.

Jen Psaki said there was no timetable for a decision by the president on whether to boycott.

The Olympics did not come up when Biden met with the Chinese leader, according to the White House.
