The small city of Williston in North Dakota is planting its flag in the $2.5 trillion cryptocurrencies market by installing an ATM at its airport.
The first "government-hosted" kiosk at a US airport will allow people to buy and sell at least 37 digital currencies.
The finance director of the City of Williston said in a statement that this was an ambitious step in introducing and engaging the public towards cryptocurrencies. According to the US Census, the population of Williston was more than 29,000 in 2019. The city is located in a part of the world known for its oil and gas deposits.
We are making an impact despite being a small rural community. He said that taking this small step may pave the way for other government and commercial entities to follow suit.
The city has been embracing cryptocurrencies, and in May began accepting them as payment for utility bills. According to the news outlet, the first town in North Dakota and the third in the country to offer such a service was the town of Williston. The move was made with BitPay.

People who don't have access to traditional financial services can use the airport's digital currency machine. The machine will be placed before a secured area so that passengers and non- travelers can have access to it. People can use the machine to withdraw money from their digital wallet.

The statement says that the airport ATM project is in partnership with Coin Cloud.
