Ethiopian Airlines Airbus A350 Suffers Wingtip Strike at Johannesburg

On 6th November 2021, an Ethiopia Airlines A350-900 suffered a right wingtip strike, which was associated with a hard landing, at the OR Tambo International airport.

The one and half year old aircraft, with a registration, was performing flight from Ethiopia to South Africa and touched down hard on the runway. The landing was rejected and the aircraft climbed back out, but it landed without incident about 20 minutes later.

The aircraft was descending at a rate of 500 feet per minute at the time of touchdown. The aircraft touched down about 120 meters past the runway threshold and then moved 12 degrees to the right and left the runway.

South Africa'sCAA reported that they had dispatched investigators to the site after they were notified of an incident involving an Ethiopia A350-900. The aircraft is on the ground for a long-term repair.

All on board survived the emergency landing of the plane in a field after it was struck by a bird. The A321 Bird hit the engines on departure. Avherald states that An Ural Airlines has an A321-100.
