Streamlabs promised to remove "OBS" from the name of its software after backlash from streamers and the open-sourced platform OBS Studio. The company said it asked Streamlabs not to use its name, only to have the company do so anyway. Streamlabs has been accused of copying the website of another broadcasting software and all the drama hashed out on social media.

Lightstream suggested that Streamlabs copied it when it posted a picture of its website next to Streamlabs. The CEO of Lightstream later commented on the image, saying that the team at Streamlabs should be ashamed. Not satisfied with the work of the OBSProject.

In a reply to Grubb, OBS alleged that Streamlabs name has proven problematic for the brand. Customers and other companies have confused OBS and Streamlabs due to the "OBS" abbreviation that Streamlabs tacks on its name.

When the service first launched, Streamlabs asked if it could use the name "OBS", according to OBS. Streamlabs still used the name even though OBS asked them not to. OBS says they have tried to sort this out in private and they have been unwilling to work with them. OBS acknowledges that Streamlabs did everything right legally, but they ignored the spirit of open source and gave back.

I will be asking streamlabs to take my face off the platform and use another donation service if they don't resolve the issues.

Streamlabs will take immediate action to remove "OBS" from its product name after being accused. It also states that theStreamlabs OBS is built on top of the open-source platform. This seems like a weak justification for using the name.

Streamlabs was faced with no choice but to change its name, especially when a streamer with over 8 million followers threatened to stop playing for the service. The drama makes you wonder if Streamlabs put OBS in its name to get people to use it. Everyone in the world of streaming knows about OBS.
