Human Brains Are Shrinking, Scientist Warns

Neuroscience and brain science are related.

Many people who watch cable news have suspected for a while that human brains are getting smaller.

J.M. Stibel, a brain scientist at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum and author of the study, says that the size of human brains has decreased in the past 50,000 years. The study found that the brain size in modern humans has decreased.

Stibel found evidence that brain size has decreased due to obese people.
The paper noted that measures of general intelligence and educational attainment have risen over the past century. Environmental factors such as health, education, and technology might have made up for the fact that our brains were shrinking.

Stibel used IQ as a measure of intelligence. The benchmark has a long and sordid history as a tool used to discriminate against marginalized communities, and it has been criticized for collapsing different types of intelligence into one overly simplistic metric.

Stibel points out that there has been a significant decrease in IQ over the past 30 years in many parts of the globe. Environmental factors might not be able to help increase or maintain our intelligence in the long-term.
If it wasn't already, the world from "Idiocracy" might become a reality in the future.
