Judge orders Henry Ruggs back to court after missed alcohol test

A Las Vegas judge ordered a former Raiders receiver to appear before her on Monday after learning he missed a required alcohol test while on house arrest following a fatal crash.

After missing a breath test last week, Ruggs self-tested negative, his lawyers told Justice of the Peace.

David Chesnoff blamed the delay on trouble with testing equipment.

During the brief hearing Wednesday, Baucum told his lawyers she wouldn't issue a subpoena for the fire department records about the fatal crash. Attorneys can get those records on their own, according to the judge.

There is a chance that he could face a return to jail. If he didn't comply with the release restrictions the judge who set his bail at $150,000 warned him.

The man is under home confinement with electronic monitoring and alcohol checks. He has to blow into a device that checks his blood-alcohol level when he hears a phone call or text. He has a home that is close to where the crash occurred.

The legal limit for drivers in Nevada is 0.08, but prosecutors said the blood-alcohol level was twice that.

He and his girlfriend were injured when the Chevrolet Corvette he was driving slammed into the back of Tina Tintor's Toyota Rav4 and broke its fuel tank.

His lawyers have said in court that a witness told them that firefighters were slow to extinguish flames.

Other witnesses tried to save Tintor and her dog but were turned back by the heat, flames and smoke.

There were no delays in the response to the fire according to a Clark County spokesman.

There are two felony charges of driving under the influence causing death or serious injury that will be heard in December. Each charge carries mandatory prison time for a conviction of up to 20 years.

Police said a loaded handgun was found in his wrecked sports car, and he faces felony reckless driving and weapon charges.

Washington underwent surgery for an arm injury, prosecutors said.

An attorney for Washington and an attorney for Richard Schonfeld are trying to stop prosecutors from looking at the medical records of a woman. There is a hearing on December 8.

The Raiders made Rugg's first pick in the 2020 NFL draft from Alabama, where he helped the Tide win the NCAA championship.
