Azeem Rafiq: Alex Hales denies racial connotation in naming of his dog

Alex Hales has played for England in 11 Tests, 70 one-day internationals and 60 T20 games, but has not played for the national side since 2019.

Alex Hales denies that his dog's name is racist, following allegations by Azeem Rafiq.

Rafiq told the committee that Gary Ballance used the name 'Kevin' as a derogatory term to refer to any player of colour.

Rafiq said that Hales named his dog Kevin because it was black.

Hales denied that his dog's name was racist.

I have huge sympathy for Azeem Rafiq and the stance he has taken. His evidence was harrowing.

I will co-operate with any investigation the game's authorities choose to hold, as there is no place for racism or discrimination in cricket.

Following Rafiq's testimony about Hales, the appropriate internal process has beenced.

Hales, who played for England in the last year, has posted pictures of himself with a dog on his social media accounts.

Rafiq said that English cricket is "institutionally" racist when he spoke at the DCMS hearing.

The investigation is being launched by the county of Somerset.

Rafiq made allegations at the hearing that Jack was at Yorkshire.

Rafiq said that the Yorkshire website used the name 'Steve' to refer to India batter Pujara because he couldn't say his first name correctly.

He doesn't like being called 'Steve' and would prefer his team-mates to call him 'Cheteshwar'.

The club said that they were made aware of the allegations against Jack Brooks on Sunday evening.

An investigation was launched immediately.

Byas is a former Yorkshire coach.

David Byas denied using racist language.

Byas was named in Rafiq's witness statement, which was published after Tuesday's DCMS hearing.

Rafiq said Byas was known for using racist language.

Byas said that his employment at Yorkshire County Cricket Club ended in January of 2007. Azeem Rafiq was contracted to play for Yorkshire before he started.

I am at a loss to understand that Azeem Rafiq can pass comment on my coaching methods, character or behavior, since I was not involved with them when he played for Yorkshire.

I categorically deny that I used the phrases attributed to me in Azeem Rafiq's witness statement and I also categorically deny that I was known for such.

There is no place for racism in cricket or in the world.
