On Black Friday, many of our favorite outdoor retailers are in a tough spot. You still need rain jackets, a good layer system, and running gear to make it through the winter, even if it's less outdoorsy than cruising retail sites shopping for gear. If you'd rather spend a crisp, sunny Black Friday hiking with visiting friends and family, these retailers have you covered.
The Get Up Get Out sale is on through November 22, and members can save 20 percent on select items with the code GEARUP. The anniversary sale runs through November 22. If you join the loyalty program at Backcountry, you will get 20 percent off one item.
WIRED has coverage of Black Friday.
A one-year subscription to WIRED is available for $5, which is $25 off. If you'd like, you can get unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine. We do work that is funded by subscriptions.
We may earn a commission if you buy something using links in our stories. This helps support journalism. You can learn more.
There are Wearables and Electronics deals.
The photo is of the device called the GoPro.
The best action camera is still the GoPro, which is a great way to document all your shred-worthy adventures. The Hero10 has a new processor that speeds up capture times, gets more resolution out of the sensor, and adds better image stabilization. There are more details in our full review.
If you ski or snowboard in the wilderness and want to make sure people can find you if you get lost, you need the inReach Mini. This pocket-sized satellite messenger uses the super-fast, low-flying Iridium network instead of the sometimes-slow or patchy gps network. It is still the top pick in our guide.
There are a lot of fitness trackers on sale at REI, which is great because they make some of the most reliable and durable. I wear this watch when I am camping off-grid because it makes the right compromises, such as not having a big, glowing screen for better battery life and tracking features.
I would've said that the best running watches were from the Forerunner series by Garmin. You can find them at almost any price point. All of the industry-standard performance- tracking metrics are included in the midrange 245, along with features like incident detection in case you fall and can't get back up.
The Venu Sq is included in both our guide to the Best Fitness Trackers and our list of the Best Smartwatches. It combines Apple's aesthetic and performance metrics with other factors. This is a great price for an entry-level tracker.
Strength training is probably a must if you're on your way to fitness. If you're still avoiding public gyms, and it's slightly more accessible at this price point, the Tempo studio is a good way to do that.
There are footwear and apparel deals.
The Magma 850 hoodie is from the Co-op.

The in-house line of gear and apparel is very affordable. The Magma is one of the most versatile pieces of camping and travel apparel you can own. It's a great layer under a waterproof shell for more intense outdoor activities. There's a lighter version of the women's version.
Everyone can use another pair of liner gloves if you're shopping for early stocking stuffers. They work well on their own for running or hiking, or under insulated and waterproof mittens. They are also on sale at the store.
Not having appropriate apparel is one of the biggest hurdles to enjoying snow sports. Synthetic insulation, thigh vents, and boot gaiters keep your feet warm and dry, and a good bib will keep snow out of your underpants.
The hammock is small and fits two people. It is recommended in our guide to stress-relieving gifts. It is on sale at both Amazon and Backcountry.
Through November 22, you can get 20 percent off any full priced item with the code CHEERS. Both my colleague and I are fans of the zero-drop design of the Altras, as well as the wide-toe box and big lugs on the sole. There is also a women's version.
Deals in snow, camping, and biking.

The attractive fire pits of Solo Stove are more efficient and smokeless than the cheaper fire pits that let smoke and ashes accumulate on your patio. We haven't tried this model yet, but we can read about it in our review.
If you join the loyalty program, you can get 20 percent off any item. Unlike many snowboards that are mass-manufactured in a number of different factories before a company applies their own branding, Capita's are hand-made in their own facility, the Mothership, which uses 100 percent clean energy. Pick the right size for your height, because this is a pretty versatile resort board.
Scott Gilbertson and I have tried many family tents, but the Kingdom tents are the best. They're reasonably priced, have vertical walls and plenty of head height, and are as versatile as a Swiss Army Knife.
We'll always have a soft spot for a classic, dishwasher-safe, and covered-in-stickers Nalgene, even though there are many other water bottles around.
You can use the code to get the discount at the checkout. If you can carry your computer and groceries at the same time, a bike makes sense as a daily commuter. I own Ortlieb panniers, and writer Stephanie Pearson recommends them in her guide to the best bikepacking gear.
