The international space community was shocked when Russia tested an anti-satellite missile and destroyed a Russian satellite.
The astronauts on the International Space Station were forced to hunker down because of the reckless move, which caused satellites to shoot around the Earth at over 17,000 mph.
Immediately, the outcry was heard. The US said the action will not be accepted. NASA was shocked. A space company in talks with NASA to build a new space station published a statement condemning the test.
Musk, who has a lot to gain, and even more to lose, in low-Earth space, has been noticeably absent from the conversation.
It is odd that Musk is one of the most vocal CEOs. He is involved in a lot of things on the social media site, from making fun of politicians to trying to get the SEC to investigate him.
Musk didn't reply to a request for comment from Futurism about the scandal.
The bits of Russian satellite junk could pose a threat to the space company. The Crew Dragon is currently docked to the International Space Station.
The Starlink satellite constellation is owned by SpaceX. The newly created cloud debris is circling the Earth. Most of the space company's broadband satellites are in the middle of the planet.
Multiple space companies are launching their own satellite constellations in low-Earth orbit. Our planet was already cluttered with bits of insulation, rocket stages, and dead satellites before Russia launched its missile.
Russia isn't the only country to blow up satellites in space. India conducted a similar test in the year 2019.
Many of these satellites will eventually fall back down towards the Earth to burn up in the atmosphere, but many more will remain, posing a real threat to humanity's presence in space.
You would think that this week's news would be met with outrage by Musk, since he has a shaky relationship with Russia's space agency.
Musk hasn't said a word after the test. Instead, he kept himself busy on the social networking site with his complaints about taxes and using senator bicyle as a punching bag.
It raises an interesting question: why? We will be keeping an eye on it.
The crew of the International Space Station had to scramble for safety from Russian satellite debris.
