JetBlue & Qatar Airways Expand Partnership, Introduce Reciprocal Mileage Earning

Plans to expand their partnership were announced earlier this year. This followed the launch of a strategic partnership between American and JetBlue. The relationship between the two airlines has now taken a step further, with the introduction of mileage earning. Let's go over it.

The codeshare agreement was expanded in April of 2021. The airlines have had some form of partnership since 2011. It was possible to book flights between select markets on jetblue.com even if no segments were on JetBlue.

jetblue.com can be used to book travel with Qatar Airways.

It is still cool to see that you are still better off booking direct if you are planning an itinerary that involves travel on both airlines. If you are on a directQR code flight, you have more mileage earning potential, and it will be easier to make changes if there are.

The code B6 has been put on flights between the airports of nine and the airport of the state of DOHA.

The Boston International Airport.
The O'Hare International Airport is in Chicago.
The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Atlanta International Airport.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport is in Houston.
Miami International Airport.
The John F. Kennedy airport is in New York.
The Philadelphia International Airport.
The Washington Dulles International Airport.

This is intended to provide unique connections between the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Further connections can be made with the use of the JetBlue code on the following seven destinations:

Amman, Jordan's Queen Alia International Airport.
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is in Malaysia.
The Male International Airport is in the island nation ofMaldives.
Salalah International Airport is located in Salalah, Sultanate of Arabia.
The airport is called the Seychelles International Airport.
The airport in Singapore is called Singapore Changi Airport.
Uganda has an airport called the EBB.

The codeshare agreement has been expanded by both airlines.

The mileage earning is live.

There are new mileage earning opportunities for both the JetBlue TrueBlue and the Qatar Airways Privilege Club.

The chart shows how much Qmiles you can earn for travel on JetBlue.

The chart shows how much TrueBlue points you can earn for travel on Qatar Airways.

In both cases, the miles are calculated as a percentage of the distance flown.

It was stated that we can expect redemptions at some point in the future. There are no details about what redemption rates will be. I wouldn't expect the award chart to be a very good deal even when it's live because it isn't very lucrative.

It would be great to see a change in the TrueBlue program's lack of decent partner redemptions.

The airlines now offer mileage earning.

My take on this partnership.

There are three major things I learned from this announcement.

I am thrilled to see that the airline has improved partnerships with both other airlines and countries in recent times.

The battle between US and Gulf carriers has ended, with the exception of a few skirmishes, and the new alliance between Alaska, American, and JetBlue is a testament to that.
The blockade of the Gulf was ended in early 2021, which means that the airline has access to several other countries.

The Gulf blockade is over.

There is a bigger question of how the American, Alaska, and JetBlue partnerships will evolve.

American has close partnerships with Alaska and JetBlue.
All of these airlines have close partnerships with Qatar Airways.
Alaska Airlines joined oneworld.

Is there a chance that we see oneworld with JetBlue?

I wouldn't necessarily read into this solely, but there are some questions that remain.

Is it possible that the oneworld alliance could eventually include JetBlue, especially with the alliance actively recruiting new members? It seems unlikely, but it would have been hard for Alaska to join oneworld a couple of years ago.
Will there be a consolidation between American and Alaska, American and JetBlue, or Alaska and JetBlue? These airlines are mostly complimentary.
One has to wonder if that might be on the table again, since a few years back the airline wanted to invest in the US.

It seems like the whole airline industry is against Delta here. We know that Delta and Qatar Airways don't get along very well, so we know that Alaska, American, and JetBlue are teaming up to try to compete as efficiently as possible against Delta in many markets.

Most of the routes out of the US that were codeshared by JetBlue and Qatar Airways are now codeshared by other airlines. As of today, the two airlines have introduced mileage earning, with redemptions expected at some point in the future.

This is great news for the airline, as it now has three strong US partners. I feel like we are getting to the point where we might have to consider regulatory issues if there is a combination of Alaska, American, and JetBlue.

What do you think about the expanded partnership between the airlines?
