A week ago I wrote about a fantastic new spending bonus on some co- branded Amex cards. It is worth taking advantage of if you are eligible and can complete the spending requirement.
The free night certificate has already been deposited in my account, which is way faster than I was expecting, since the promo terms said it could take up to 16 weeks. This is a good data point for anyone trying to decide when to spend their money.
I will share my experience after I recap the promotion basics.
Spend $8,000 and you will get a free night at the hotel.
There is a targeted offer for those with a Hilton American Express card. People who spend $8,000 on their card can receive a free night award from the hotel.
If you are eligible for the offer, you need to register.
Between the time that you register and February 28, 2022, you need to make enough purchases.
Purchases by both the primary cardmember and additional cardmember count towards the spending requirement.
It can take up to 16 weeks after completing the required spending to receive the free night certificate; you will be email when the certificate is in your account, and then you need to redeem it by phone.
The free night certificate can be used at any hotel in the country, and will be valid for one year from the date of issue.
If you already have a free night certificate on your credit card, you can also get a free night certificate if you reach a certain spending threshold.
There are frequently asked questions about the promotion here.
When I tried to register, I was able to get my Hilton card. The same thing happened with Ford. I would encourage everyone to see if they are eligible.
There was a banner in our accounts promoting the offer.
The free night reward from the hotel is very popular.
The promotion worked out well for me. I was waiting for a credit card offer to pay my bill of over $8,000, and I was able to do that. I thought this was the perfect opportunity when it was launched.
I put the purchase on my card on November 11. On November 16th, I received an email from the company stating that I had earned a new free night award for completing the spending requirement.
It can take up to 16 weeks for the free night certificate to be posted, and historically in my experience, the free night awards have been posted by the hotelier. I think that is a worthwhile data point for anyone who may have a short term use for one of these certificates.
Is this offer worth it?
I think this offer is worth it, since I have already completed the spending requirement on my hotel, and Ford plans to do the same.
Spending $8,000 on the card would earn 24,000 points, but I value the points at less than a penny each.
Most people aren't going to get the full value out of the free night certificate because only two properties cost more than 95,000 points per night.
I value these free night certificates at $400, based on all the high end properties where they can be redeemed.
I am earning $520 worth of value on $8,000 of spending, which is the equivalent of a 6.5% return. That is better than any other return I will get.
He would get a free night at the Los Cabos.
The bottom line.
The offer to spend $8,000 and receive a free night certificate is for select members of the Hilton Honors card. I was able to enroll despite never being contacted about the offer. I earned a free night certificate after completing the spending requirement, and I received an email about it five days later.
If you can complete the spending, this is a worthwhile opportunity.
Do you plan on taking advantage of this offer, if you were targeted for it?
