Is it time to stop hearing people talk aboutCryptocurrencies all the time? We have bad news for you.
The Los Angeles Lakers' home arena has had a new name recently, and it looks like it might be a parody sketch.

It's not a joke.
On Wednesday, the Staples Center got a "formerly known as" tacked in front of it, and a brand new name was announced: the Crypto.com Arena, named after "the world's fastest growing cripto app" as part of a brand deal presumably worth quite a bit The app is a platform for trading coins and NFTs, as well as giving owners a chance to get back on their investment.
It's worth noting that stadiums changing their names as part of brand deals isn't a new or uncommon thing, and the whole "Staples" bit in Staples Center was part of a 20-year deal with the U.S. office supply company. There is something funny about a name with ".com" at the end of it, it would have sounded a little less confusing if it was just being renamed "Crypto Arena", but it is a little hard to imagine people saying the full name out loud.
Not everyone was happy about the name change.
They came up with a worse name.

There were jokes about "The Crypt".
Arena is normal as building names are going to get from here on out. We're in for 20 to 30 years of "Mutant Ape Auditorium" and "Dogecoin College of Dentistry".

Still, there were some defenders.
The replies are read. I didn't know people were so passionate about office supplies.

According to the LA Times, the arena's name won't just change, it will become a "dedicated Crypto dot com 'activation space' featuring interactive experiences for sports or music fans." Yes.
People will slowly start getting used to the name after a while. They will have another 20 years.
