Ohio State's 2023 recruiting class added five-star safety Sonny Styles, a native Ohioan, to its 2023 roster on Saturday. Styles made his commitment to the Buckeyes.
Styles, a 6-foot-4 safety at Pickerington Central High School weighing 215 lbs, is the No. 9 prospect overall. He is the safety leader in his class and the No. He is the #1-ranked recruit in the state.
He is the son of Lorenzo Styles (ex-Ohio State linebacker), and Sonny was offered the chance to go to Notre Dame with his brother Lorenzo Styles Jr. but chose the Buckeyes.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that Ohio State has been awarded the No. C.J. Hicks was committed to 2022, with Jack Sawyer, five star defensive end, in 2021, Paris Johnson Jr., in 2020, and Zach Harrison, five star defensive end, in 2019. Clemson signed Jackson Carman, an offensive tackle, in 2018.
Three Ohio State students have signed ESPN Jr. 300 commitments for the 2023 class. Styles and Ty Lockwood are the top two. 131 recruit; and offensive lineman Joshua Padilla ranked No. 158 overall.
