On Friday, CEO Adam Aron proudly tweeted that the company would accept a variety of cryptocurrencies for online payments. Aron began by saying "drumroll, please" that bitcoin, ethereum and bitcoin cash are all welcome at AMC. He also announced that AMC accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay as well as PayPal.

"Big newsflash! Aron stated that AMC now offers many new payment options. "We now proudly accept: drumroll, please... Bitcoin and Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin. Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal are also accepted. They already account for 14% in total online transactions, which is amazing! Dogecoin is next

He then retweeted the meme of him photoshopped on a gold dogecoin.

Aron stated that cryptocurrency can be used to make online purchases. It doesn't appear like you will be able use it to purchase anything in person at the moment. The Verge points out that PayPal is the best way to pay cryptocurrency at the moment. Customers were previously able to buy gift cards using cryptocurrency through AMC.

Aron's announcement is not surprising. He's been insisting on shareholders for the past few months that AMC was accepting cryptocurrency online payments. He even took a page from Tesla CEO Elon Musk and created two Twitter polls asking the public whether AMC should allow dogecoin or shiba Inu. Musk liked Aron’s dogecoin poll which led to him becoming a full-stan.

You might be wondering why Aron is so passionate about cryptocurrency. It all boils down to the new shareholders of the company, the retail investors who rallied on Reddit's forum r/wallstreetbets through memes to keep the company afloat in the beginning (and stick it at Wall Street). Aron revealed that these shareholders now own more than 80% of Aron's company in June and promised free popcorn.

They are our work. Aron stated in June that he works for them. "By definition, their passions and interests are important to AMC. Their ambitions and passions to me are important."

Aron says cryptocurrency is one of his passions. He's willing to help. This is a difficult task, however.
