Microsoft will be bringing back rubberized grips for Xbox Design Lab controllers, as well as metallic finishes. Microsoft originally halted its Design Lab program in advance of the Xbox Series X launch last spring, but it returned to the program in June with the removal of metallic finishes and rubberized grips.
These original customization options, along with some new additions, are back. Both the side and back grips now have black rubberized grips. There are also three new colors for the controller parts. Microsoft has also added 19 new metallic finishes colors to the product, including options in blue, green and pink.
Xbox Design Lab lets Xbox owners create customized Xbox controllers in the US and Canada. They are priced at $69.99. There are many color options, and you can change the colors of most parts of the controller including bumpers, thumbsticks and buttons.
Microsoft states that the metallic and rubberized finishes are now available. Each custom controller will arrive within 3-4 weeks of placing an order.
