Surprisingly, as Archie Andrews' recent return to pop culture relevance may have been for some Western viewers after Riverdale premiered on the CW in 2017, it was likely not true for Indians where Archie and his friends remain much more relevant and beloved.

As the Archie brand is known, Lily-white remains. However, the next major project that adapts from classic Archie Comics stories is going to be a completely different direction. Variety reports that Zoya Akhtar, Ghost Stories' director, has been appointed to head The Archies, a live-action musical from Netflix, Tiger Baby and Graphic India. It is described as "a coming-of age, live-action musical set in 1960s India and based on Riverdale's teenagers."
Aktar spoke out about the movie and said that she loved Archie and his friends growing up and wanted the film to speak to people who have special memories of these characters.
Aktar stated that the characters are "immense and loved around the world, which is also why it makes me nervous." "I must ensure that the film stirs the nostalgia of a generation who grew up with the comic, but resonates with today's young adults."
Netflix has not yet revealed any details about The Archies. However, its title and musical inspiration suggest that it may borrow from Alex Segura and Matthew Rosenberg's The Archies. A 2017 series in which Archie, the gang, form a band just like groups. The Archies is currently in production. Netflix has yet to announce when the film will be released.
