Spotify has launched a new feature that allows users to block other users on the platform. Users used to have to contact customer service to block someone. Now, it is much easier to locate the feature on a user's profile.
Go to the user's Spotify profile to block them. Click the three dots menu next to their username and photo and click "block" or "block user." This will block that user from accessing your listening activity, public playlists, and your page. Unblocking a user that you have previously blocked is also possible.
A Spotify spokesperson stated in an email to The Verge that Spotify is committed to providing the best listening experience possible. Our block feature which allows users to have more control over their music, is the latest example of privacy.
In 2019, the company introduced a "block artists" feature. However, users have asked for a way for them to block other users for years. BuzzFeed News conducted a detailed report in 2018 on Spotify users who were harassed and stalked by others, but were unable prevent them from seeing their activity on Spotify. Spotify stated at the time that it was considering the introduction of a block capability.
Spotify claims that the change should be made available to users by this week.
