Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Aminata Diallo was arrested in connection to an alleged attack against a teammate. The club announced Wednesday.
After an attack last week, the France international was taken into custody Wednesday morning.
ESPN has been told by sources that the police investigation is related to an attack on Kheira Hamraoui, a PSG teammate, on Thursday.
Sources claimed that Hamraoui, a PSG teammate, was riding in Diallo's car that night after having left a Paris club dinner.
Sources say that Hamraoui was attacked by two men in iron bars and balaclavas as she pulled the car out in front her home. The men fled after the two-minute assault.
PSG confirmed that Diallo had been taken into police custody, but did not name the victim.
The club released the following statement: "Paris Saint-Germain acknowledges Aminata diallo was remanded into police custody this morning in the Versailles SRPJ proceedings that were initiated after an assault against the club's members last Thursday evening."
Paris Saint-Germain condemns the violence in any way it can. The club took all necessary precautions to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of its players since Thursday night, Nov. 4.
"PSG is working closely alongside the Versailles SRPJ in order to clarify the facts. The club will be closely monitoring the progress of the proceedings to determine what course of action should be taken.
Sources said that Hamraoui had to be admitted to hospital for treatment of her leg injuries. Although she has not suffered any career-threatening injuries, she was unable make her 100th appearance in the Champions League match against Real Madrid.
Diallo instead started the match, as PSG won a 4-0 victory to win their third consecutive win in this competition.
Hamraoui is a defensive midfielder, and Diallo is a French national team player.
Diallo joined PSG as a 2016 intern and was on loan to the National Women's Soccer League club Utah Royals until the 2020 season.
