Steven Gerrard: Rangers manager high on Aston Villa shortlist to replace Dean Smith

Rangers won their first title in 10 seasons last season when Steven Gerrard took over.

Steven Gerrard, Rangers boss, remains high on Aston Villa’s list of potential targets for Dean Smith replacement - however other candidates are being considered.

Villa's hierarchy is impressed by Gerrard’s efforts in revitalizing Rangers in his first managerial position.

Villa might be ready to lure him to Villa Park, as he has been long considered a future Liverpool boss.

Christian Purslow, ex-Reds managing direct and chief executive of Villa, is also familiar with the 41-year old.

Villa is considering Gerrard as a candidate, but Gerrard isn't the only one. They are planning to hold a thorough recruitment process during international break to find their new manager with the hopes of having him on the team for the next match at home to Brighton, 20 November.

The Villa board is also interested in Roberto Martinez, the Belgium coach, and Kasper Hjulmand from Denmark, who both led their country to the Euro 2020 semi finals.

Ralph Hasenhuttl from Southampton is another Villa favorite. He is loyal to Southampton and Brighton's Graham Potter is another contender for the vacant position. However, it is highly unlikely that he would leave the Amex Stadium at this time.
