Peloton finally adds a pause button for its on-demand classes on its bikes

Peloton announced the addition of a pause button to its Bike and Bike+ on-demand classes. This allows users to temporarily pause a class, then resume it.
This is a feature that has been unavailable since today. Technically, it isn't available on any of Peloton products. The pause button only rolls out to Peloton's cycling bikes at the moment. Tread treadmill will get an update "in the future", but for now you will have to run all at once.

It's easy for Peloton to make fun of the small feature. However, it is important to remember that adding a pause button in Peloton classes requires more thought than just pausing and restarting the class.

Today's roll-out on the Bike or Bike Plus

This is due to Peloton's popular leaderboard system and ranking system. Customers can compare their workouts against other Peloton users. Unscrupulous users could add a pause button to compromise the integrity of these metrics. They can pause and take a short break, then return to their workout at maximum effort to boost their ranking.

Users who pause a workout will lose their rank in the leaderboard. However, all other metrics, challenges and achievements will remain the same. Users who are paused will still be listed on the "Here Now” list in the app. They also receive high-fives from other Peloton users.

The new pause button is only available for Peloton classes on-demand and not live classes. While Peloton is powerful, it cannot stop the forward motion of temporal spaces and reverse the march towards the universe's inevitable heath die. For now, at least.
