Watford announced the signing Maduka Okoye, Nigerian goalkeeper, for an undisclosed sum from Sparta Rotterdam.

The 5-and-a-half-year deal will start on January 20, 2022, and continue until the end 2026-27 season.

The 22-year old will, however, spend the remainder of 2021-22 with Sparta Rotterdam under a loan agreement.

Since his debut in the 1-1 draw against Brazil in 2019, Okoye has appeared 13 times for Nigeria.

The goalkeeper, 6ft 6in tall, started his career in Germany at Borussia monchengladbach. He also played for Bayer Leverkusen as well as Fortuna Dusseldorf. In the summer of 2020, he moved to the Dutch Eredivisie side.

He was awarded Sparta's Player Of The Season in 2020-21. His team finished eighth in the Dutch top flight.
