Android 12 was finally released to eligible Google Pixel phones after a seemingly endless beta period. This is much later than normal. While the wait has been longer, other Android developers have less time to finish their Android 12 skins on schedule. However, most Android devs still intend to release the OS on their latest flagships by December 2021. The majority of top Android OEMs have already released their Android 12 betas. The Samsung One UI 4 beta, for example, has new features and its spin-on the Material You design to Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Z Fold 3. Meanwhile, OxygenOS 12 beta on OnePlus 9 has lost its identity and is now a ColorOS clone.
We're here to tell you which top Android phones will receive Android 12, and when. This information has not been officially released by companies yet. It will also depend on the time it takes for bugs to be fixed in their respective betas. We can draw some conclusions from past years about what to expect. The latest flagship phones will likely see stable releases within the next few months. Older phones might have to wait until mid- to late 2022. ASUS Android 12 will be easy-to-remember, since the company only updates a few phones to the OS. Only the Asus Zenfone 8 (and Zenfone 8 Flip) will be receiving the update in the second half of 2021. The update will be available for ASUS gaming phones like the ROG phone 5 in the first three month of 2022. ASUS claims that all Android 12 updates will be available within the first half 2022. Your Pixel phone can currently download Android 12, unless you own a Pixel 1 and Pixel 2. You can download Android 12 if you have a Pixel 6, 5, 4, 4 or 3, and still run Android 11. While you can expect some minor updates when Android 12L arrives early in 2022, this update will be more focused on tablets and foldables. It won't impact your smartphone experience. Motorola hates updating its phones. Motorola doesn't like updating its phones. Most of their phones only receive one platform update. This means that phones from 2020 or 2021 won’t get Android 12. So, those who purchased phones such as the Motorola One 5G Ace (2021) and Moto G Power (2021), are out of luck. Motorola Android 12 updates mostly include phones that were released in this year with Android 11 installed. Nokia is another company that has had problems with updating its phones. Nokia, despite being the last manufacturer to make Android One phones has not lived up to its promise of simultaneous OS updates with Pixel phones. Instead, Nokia released an Android 11 update plan and missed many deadlines. Nokia now has Android 11 on most of its phones and can focus its attention solely on Android 12. Nokia launched the Android 12 Developer Beta on its Nokia XR20 in September and closed applications in October. Nokia XR20 launched an Android 12 Developer Beta in September. Applications were closed in October. Although we don't yet have an official Nokia Android 12 release schedule, the Nokia XR20 phones will receive an Android 12 update.

OxygenOS 12 offers a unique spin on Android 12. It doesn't have much in common with stock Android. Because OxygenOS's code was merged with ColorOS the launcher and features have lost much their original identity. OxygenOS will cease to exist after 12 releases. All OnePlus phones will then use ColorOS 13. This might mean that you are less likely to upgrade your phone. The OxygenOS 12 beta is still available on the OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9 Pro, but it's been running since October 4. We have not yet seen a beta 2 or it appearing on other OnePlus phones. This indicates that OnePlus is behind Samsung in terms of its update schedule.
We expect the OnePlus 9 series to receive Android 12 by December 31st. The update order is as follows: OnePlus 8 series; OnePlus 9R; 8T; Nord CE, Nord 2 and OnePlus 7T/7 series. OPPO has been making a concerted effort in order to get more of its phones into Western markets. ColorOS 12 is now available for OPPO phones. ColorOS 12 beta was launched on October 4, with the Find X3 series. However, it is only available in some territories. Although OxygenOS 12 is arguably a less powerful version of ColorOS 12, the actual ColorOS 12 released performed well in our tests. The UI is cleaner than the 11 OS and has better icons and spacing. OPPO's original spin on the Material You colour picker tool makes it stand out.

The One UI 4 beta was launched by Samsung on the Galaxy S21 Series in September, long before the official Android 12 code launch. The beta 2 release with Material You color customization was released in October. This is a sign that Samsung closely worked with Google developers to ensure its software releases were on schedule. Samsung seems to be on track for a quick launch despite Google’s delays. Beta 3 is now over on the S21, and the One UI 4 foldable beta launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 & Z Flip 3. The beta should be available on the S20 series as well. This link will provide a complete list of compatible devices as well as estimated times. We'll discuss the highlights further below.
In December 2020, one UI 3.0 was added to the Galaxy S20s. In January 2021, the Note 20s, S10s and other major phones got UI 3.0. We would expect a similar pattern for 4.0. The S21s will get Android 12 in December. The Note 20, foldables and the new Galaxy A phones will arrive in January. Older phones and tablets will be available in spring 2022 and summer 2022.
