Florida Senator Rick Scott said that the Senate's GOP Campaign arm supports Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska, for re-election. This is a break from former President Donald Trump who had denounced her.
Scott, the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee told Chuck Todd on NBC's Meet the Press that the committee supports all incumbent senators.
Todd wanted to know if the committee included Murkowski, who Trump has attacked repeatedly, and if it would financially support her or actively assist her in defeating a primary opponent.
Scott stated, "Absolutely." "We support all incumbents and, fortunately for our party, we have great candidates running in primaries. We also have 'Bernie Sanders' candidate on the other side of many primaries. So we are going to be in a great place in '22."
Trump enthusiastically supported Kelly Tshibaka, Murkowski's opponent in the 2022 Alaska Senate race.
Trump stated in June that Murkowski must go. "Kelly Tshibaka can defeat Murkowski, and she will. Kelly is a fighter for Alaska values, America First and Kelly is the one to beat. Kelly is pro-energy, strong at the Border, tough about crime, and fully supports our Military and our wonderful Vets.
Since Trump and six other Republican senators voted in his second impeachment case to convict Murkowski, Trump has pursued Murkowski. After the January 6th insurrection, she was vocally critical of Trump and was the first GOP senator calling for his resignation.
According to Alia Shoaib, Murkowski has outperformed Tshibaka in fundraising. Murkowski raised $1.1 million between July & September, compared with $446,000 by Tshibaka.
