Microsoft says it will end OneDrive updates to Windows 7 and 8 in March

According to Microsoft, OneDrive users running Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 on Windows will not be able to sync their content with the cloud from March 1, 2022. This is according to a blog post posted on its Tech Community forum. OneDrive users who do not have Windows 10 and Windows 11 installed will no longer be able to receive updates.
No matter which version of Windows you are using, files will still be available from the OneDrive app. However, they won't automatically upload to cloud. Microsoft recommends that you upgrade to a newer Windows version before March next year in order to avoid problems with OneDrive. Microsoft states that even if your system is not compatible with Windows 10, Windows 11 or Windows 10, you can still backup your files using the OneDrive web application.

OneDrive for Windows 7/8 and 8.1 will no longer be supported after January 1, 2018. This includes the inability to sync and updates being stopped. Microsoft explains that the change was made to help users have the best possible experience and focus on new technologies.

Windows 8's lifecycle ended in 2016 when Microsoft stopped mainstream support for Windows 8 in 2018 and Windows 7 2020 in 2020. It is time to prepare for Windows 11 after Microsoft announced that it will end support for Windows 10 by 2025.
