Open Channel: What Did You Think of Thor: Love and Thunder?

Marvel released two movies this weekend. Eternals was the first movie, but Thor: Love and Thunder was the one we really care about. The new film, directed once again by Oscar-winning comedian Taika Waititi, sees Chris Hemsworth's musclebound thunder god being defeated by Natalie Portmans return Jane Foster, aka, the new Mighty Thor.

But it's not just Natalie Portman, the main selling point, folks! Tessa Thompson is the second most groundbreaking LGBTQ character in MCU. Although she was slightly miffed that she shared the honor with Eternals Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry's gay alien whose inventions led to the creation the atom bomb), it was still nice to have a place at the table. It's quite surprising, to be honest, that this multi-billion dollar franchise has decided that gays can make a profit. Gay aliens are no less.

Love & Thunder has a full cast, including several Guardians of the Galaxy actors, Russell Crowe as Zeus and Christian Bale playing Gorr the God Butcher. It is both incredibly personal and busy, yet it also delivers one after the other. Waititis claimed that it was the most insane shit he's ever seen. You can see why, the Obligatory Act 3 Fight was one of the greatest Marvels ever done. It is certainly not a sign they should change their structure!

The most surprising thing about Love & Thunder, is not how it actually commits to Valkyries quest to be a queen. It doesn't have an extended sequence in which Jane Thors sets up a Tinder profile or Jane Thors 10-minute workout montage set Scandals The Warrior. It's strange that there hasn't been a trailer or promo for Ragnarok 2, aka Thor 2 - the movie most people think they liked. Perhaps they are doing a sneaky release to allow the Eternals to get their feet on the ground since they're the new franchise. Perhaps they are thinking the same thing as Titanfall 2, where they believe the movies can be seen on their own and won't cannibalize one another. In which case they may have forgotten how Titanfall 2 ended.

We want to hear your opinions on the film in any case. It was a great movie. Did you hate it? What were your thoughts on those three scenes after the credits? It's amazing that Korg and Miek ended up in a polycule together with Beta Ray Bill, Darkhawk and Miek! We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Marvel won't allow critics to publish reviews until July 8, 2022.
