Large Wisconsin healthcare system ended Saturday's partnership with Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers quarterback. The reason? Covid-19 vaccinations were not being given to Rodgers.
Prevea Health is based in Green Bay and has more than 80 locations across Northern, Eastern, and Western Wisconsin. These include services at hospitals and clinics as well as doctor practices. Prevea executives and providers of medical care say they are working to immunize the populations they serve against Covid-19.
Rodgers was infected by Covid-19 and cannot play Sunday football because of National Football League rules. He said on Friday that he has an allergy to Modernas mRNA vaccinations and that he could not get two of the three shots recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Rodgers instead sought out unproven solutions and consulted podcaster Joe Rogan about vaccine alternatives. This was apparently enough to force Prevea Health from its relationship with the Packers star quarterback and three-time NFL MVP.
ESPN reported that Rodgers claimed in August that he had been immunized against the disease. He petitioned the NFL Players Association, an approved infectious disease expert, and the NFL to be considered vaccinated. However, the NFL denied Rodgers petition.
Prevea Health did not comment on Rodgers unproven treatments against Covid. These included ivermectin (a drug that is better known to be used by animals to combat parasites). Prevea Health did however stress the importance to get Covid-19 vaccines in its statement.
Prevea Health's Aaron was a partner since 2012. He has served as a spokesperson for the organization and supported its health and wellness programs throughout Wisconsin since 2012. Prevea released a statement Saturday. Prevea Health is committed to protecting its staff, patients, providers, and communities from the COVID-19 pandemic. To prevent further severe consequences to lives and livelihoods, Prevea Health encourages and assists all eligible populations to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Prevea Health did not disclose the terms of its nine-year relationship to Rodgers.
