The Chicago White Sox announced Saturday that they will exercise their $16 million club option for Craig Kimbrel as a reliever.
After a 0.49 mark in April and July as the Chicago Cubs closer, Kimbrel was a July trade-deadline purchase. He posted a 5.09 ERA during the White Sox's final two months as their primary eighth-inning pitcher.
As the team's closer, Liam Hendriks, right-hander, has signed a long-term contract.
The White Sox declined the $6 million club option for Cesar Hernandez, an infielder, to 2022.
