Image Comics workers announced earlier this week that they had formed Comic Book Workers United. This unionization effort aims to make significant changes within the workplace in order to improve equity, accessibility, transparency, and equality. CBWU shared a list with goals and reasons for unionizing and requested that Image Comics recognize it publicly and start talks about a new contract.

Although Image initially hesitated to comment on CBWU's formation or whether it would recognize it, the company later stated in a statement that they believe in fair and equitable treatment of employees and have always tried to support them to the best of their ability. Image could support its employees by simply acknowledging the union and beginning to communicate in good faith to the bargaining team. This would be the simplest and most immediate way to help them.
Image, however, has chosen to invite the National Labor Relations Board into its office as a third party. Image stated in a Motherboard statement that it would like to have a secret ballot vote to decide whether the Communications Workers of America union should be represented.
Image stated that the Communications Workers of America (CWA), filed a petition to the National Labor Relations Board to request a secret ballot election to allow eligible Image Comics staff members to decide if they would like the CWA representing them in their Image Comics employment. The NLRB is currently reviewing the petition to determine when and where that election will take place.
CBWU spoke to io9 via email earlier this week about the push for organizing. It stated that Image hadn't yet been in direct contact regarding voluntary recognition. CBWU hopes Image will see things from their perspective.

CBWU stated that we are asking Image to recognize our union and to encourage our supporters to ask them to do so. Although the outpouring support has been tremendous, some may feel that it is over. It's just beginning.
