Georgia suspends Adam Anderson after rape allegation; attorney for star LB calls accusation 'unfounded'

Sources told ESPN that Georgia suspended Adam Anderson, the starting linebacker, indefinitely. Anderson was accused of raping a woman.
Anderson, a senior citizen from Rome, Georgia has not been charged and his attorney refuted the allegation.

A report from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department says that a 21-year old woman claimed she went to Athens, Georgia between 12 and 7 a.m. Friday. The woman claimed that Anderson was raping her after she had had a few drinks.

Later that day, she reported the incident to police. Anderson was a part of Georgia's victory over Florida 34-7 in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday.

Athens Clarke County Police lieutenant Shaun Barnett stated that the investigation was still ongoing. "No arrests or final determinations have been made, either way."

Steve Sadow, Anderson's attorney, stated in a statement that the allegation was "unfounded" and "unsupported" and that Anderson had "apparently made inconsistent statements."

Sadow stated that Adam hopes and prays that the UGA community, and the public, keep an open mind to him and not make unfounded or baseless judgments.

Anderson is a star of No. 1 Georgia's defense. He is the Bulldogs' leader with five sacks.

"We are aware that the report has been reported, and we don’t comment on matters of law enforcement. But I’ve been clear about our high standards for student-athletes both on and off the pitch," Kirby Smart, Bulldogs coach, said Thursday. "I will work closely with our administration in order to ensure that we fully cooperate with all campus protocols and law enforcement."

Anderson, who is 6'5" and 230 lbs, is the No. ESPN's Todd McShay ranked Anderson as the 29th prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft. Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN's outside linebacker
