Cop26: can capitalism actually go green?

Science Weekly podcast is based in Glasgow. We bring you daily episodes from Cop26. Every morning, you'll hear from a member of the Guardians-winning environment team. Today's host Madeleine Finlay speaks to Patrick Greenfield, Guardians biodiversity reporter and shadow Cop26 president, about announcements from finance day
On Wednesday, hundreds from the largest banks and pension funds in the world, totaling $130tn in assets, pledged to support a key climate goal. The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a finance pledge that will see all assets managed by these institutions aligned with net zero emission by 2050. Experts questioned the importance of the move and pointed out that banks can still pour money into fossil fuels over the next ten years. Rishi Sunak declared that London would be the first net-zero finance center in the world, but environmentalists were skeptical.

Today's Science Weekly host Madeleine Finlay speaks to Patrick Greenfield, Guardians biodiversity reporter, about the announcements made by finance day. They also catch up with Ed Miliband who discusses whether or not the proposals are really that significant.
