Monday's Gol flight from So Paulo Guarulhos airport in Brazil to Minas Gerais took off, but the weather forced it to divert back to So Paulo.
Passengers became frustrated at the lack of assistance in getting rebooked and faced spending the night back where they started. They started to riot.
According to the airline:
GOL informs you that flight G31324 (Guarulhos Confins), had to return to Guarulhos Airport after take-off due to severe weather conditions in Confins. The Company insists that it provided the necessary support for all customers and allowed passengers to continue their journey on scheduled flights this Tuesday.
American Airlines eventually bought the Brazilian low-cost carrier and put the passengers up in hotels. They then rebooked them the next morning.
