This latest outage comes after a huge one that occurred in October, which saw Facebook and all its services disappear for the better part a day. The cause of the blackout was eventually revealed to be a bad configuration change to an important but obscure routing protocol called Border Gateway Protocol, or BGP.

Global outages are not the only problem Face-Metas has today. Frances Haugen, a whistleblower from a company, has been exposing ongoing problems with the company's business practices. Congress has inquired about Haugen's leaks, and ongoing media investigations have been launched.
