Australia batter Will Pucovski 'unlikely' to play in first Ashes Test

Last update on. From the section Cricket
Will Pucovski scored 62 in his Test debut against India in Jan before undergoing surgery to correct a shoulder injury.

As he continues to recover from concussion symptoms, Australia's batsman Will Pucovski will likely miss the first Test against England.

Pucovski suffered a head injury while in training for the state team Victoria.

The Ashes Test will begin in Brisbane on 8 December.

"In discussions with his medical team and national selectors it was decided that we would give him more time before he is selected to play for Australia," stated Chris Rogers, Victoria coach.

"No doubt that it's a setback. I'd now say it's unlikely that he'll play the first Test."

Pucovski has had concussion issues in the past. He is currently experiencing symptoms for 10th consecutive time since October, when he suffered his latest blow.

He was supposed to be back in action for Victoria in the second Sheffield Shield match, which begins on Friday. However, it seems that this plan has been altered.

Rogers said, "If we play a third Shield match in mid-November and there might also be a second game for Victoria, that might prepare him to one of the matches during the Ashes series."

"This is the best-case scenario for the moment."
