Niantic's 'Harry Potter: Wizards Unite' Augmented Reality Game Shutting Down

Niantic's augmented reality game Pokmon Go has been a huge success. However, the Harry Potter-themed game has not had as much success. As a result, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be closed on January 31, 2022.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was first introduced in June 2019. It allows players to join The Statute of Secrecy Task Force and explore the Wizarding World locations in real life, much like Pokmon Go.

To find magical artifacts and creatures to fight and level up, players must visit landmark locations in the real-world. Real-time cooperative elements are available.

On December 6, 2021, the game will be removed form the App Store. This is also when in-game purchase will be disabled. A few changes have been made to the game starting November 2 as a last-minute hurrah.

Daily tasks will offer increased rewards. The daily limit on opening and sending gifts will be reduced by half.

Dolores Umbridge and Lucius Malfoy will be launching events in November and December. The Calamity will end the game before it is closed down permanently.

Players who have invested in the game won't be eligible for a refund. However, they can spend any remaining balances and make use of their items prior to the January 31st deadline.
