Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is shutting down next year

Niantic, developers of Pokmon Go will shut down Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, its AR game based on Harry Potter, on January 31, 2022. According to the game website, the game will be removed from the App Store and Google Play on December 6th. You will also be unable to make in-game payments. On January 31, the games community forum will close and social media channels will also be closed.
Niantic did not explain why it shut down Harry Potter and Wizards Unite in a blog post or FAQ. We were not impressed with the game when it was first released in 2019. The game also didn't have the same popularity as Pokmon Go which, despite being five years old, is still very relevant.

It has been a while since there was an AR hit on the same level as Pokmon Go. Niantics AR version of Catan, which is based on Pokmon Go, will be completely shut down in this month. In June, Microsoft closed Minecraft Earth. However, that hasn't stopped Niantic trying. It just released Pikmin Bloom, an AR game that focuses on Pikmin, and it has an AR Transformers game in development.
