Apple Says Fourth-Generation iPad Released in 2012 is Now Obsolete

According to an internal memo that MacRumors obtained, Apple has classified the fourth-generation iPad obsolete as of November 1. This means the device is no more eligible for hardware service globally. Although the fourth-generation iPad is not yet on Apple's publicly-facing list of obsolete and vintage products, it will be.

The fourth-generation iPad was released in November 2012 along with the original iPad mini. It dispensed with Apple's 30-pin connector and instead adopted the Lightning connector, which had been introduced in the iPhone 5 only weeks before. Apple's fourth-generation iPad received the A6X chip, which doubles the CPU and graphics performance of its third-generation iPad. It was launched alongside the original iPad mini in November 2012.

According to the memo, Apple also declared the Late 2012 Mac mini obsolete as of November 1st.
