Cameras are still poor. The Fire HD 8 Plus is the first time Amazon has attempted to distinguish tablets and e-readers within the same product line by offering premium features. These features, such as wireless charging and fast charging, will eventually be added to other Fire products, but this gadget is the best way to experience the future Fire lineup. Amazon has made almost all its Fire tablets available for update in the last year. This includes the basic Fire 7 tablet, which you can buy at an impulse, and the Fire HD 10, which is more expensive but offers the same experience. Amazon has also updated the Kids Edition tablets in line with regular models. Fire enthusiasts like me have waited nearly two years for an update of the HD 8. This tablet, which I call the "Goldilocks" of tablets, has the perfect balance of price, performance and value. What can someone looking for a great mid-sized tablet in their price range do now that the Fire HD 8 Plus has been updated?

You can see that there are not many differences between the Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 8. Both versions of the Fire HD 8 look and feel identical. They even share accessories such as covers and cases. There are two major differences: the inside (RAM and charging options) and the outside (color options). This is all.

Although Amazon didn't make any significant changes to the HD 8 iteration, the iterative improvements it made (to both models), are welcomed.

It increased the battery life by 10 to 12 hours. While that may not sound like much but it can make a difference when you travel long distances or fly for long periods of time. If you are at home, it simply means you can charge your device faster. It also introduced USB-C, which was first introduced with the 2019 HD 10, so we should expect to see it on future Amazon device updates.

Amazon has updated the color palette for the HD 8 in order to better match the 7 series and the Kindle ereaders. The processors were also upgraded for a 30% increase in performance. Both devices received an increase in RAM (2GB and 3GB respectively). Amazon retained the 32GB and 64GB internal storage configurations. However, it increased the microSD storage expandability to up to 1TB. This is great for storing movies, music and games for long trips or areas that have low connectivity.

This is the first Fire tablet to have the front-facing camera in landscape or horizontal orientation. It is a habit of mine to hold my tablet in this way to see the content, so it makes sense that video chats with others would be more enjoyable. This orientation is also more practical if you plan to use a Bluetooth keyboard.

Amazon has finally introduced Game Mode, which is completely free from distractions. This prevents notifications from interfering with your gaming experience. It has the best part: It's on by default, and it turns on when you start a game. You can turn it off in the settings, if you don’t mind interruptions. But why would you?

What is the Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus?

Amazon's Fire HD 8 Plus Plus is the first time that it has attempted to offer a premium tier of Fire tablets in 2020. The device looks very similar to the regular Fire HD 8 except that it is only available in Slate. The HD 8 Plus is not a different device. It's the inside of the HD 8 Plus that matters.

The HD 8 Plus has 50% more RAM (3GB to 2GB) than the HD 8, which will make movies and games more fluid and help you stay ahead of the curve. The HD 8 Plus's included 9W adapter can speed up charging. This is ideal for people who need to top up more quickly, especially before a trip.

The HD 8 Plus can wirelessly charge up to Qi. Amazon sells a unique Wireless Charging Dock. However, it can also be used with third-party wireless chargers. The Amazon dock allows you to quickly switch your Fire HD 8 into Show Mode without worrying about the battery draining or having a wire sticking out. It turns your Fire HD 8 into an Echo Show. However, it can be taken with you wherever you go.

Amazon Fire HD 8 and 8 Plus: Which one should you choose?

Amazon's tablets are a favorite of mine so I was delighted to see the HD 8 finally updated after 2 years. The HD 8 has more premium features, which I found very pleasing. While both versions are excellent, I think the HD 8 tablet is the best. It doesn't support wireless charging and it charges slower than the HD 8 Plus. However, I don't think this matters to most Fire tablet users. They're nice-to-haves, but not essential. The $20+ price difference is worth it, but I believe most people will be happy with the base version.

The Fire HD 8 Plus, with its maximum storage and accessories such as the Wireless Charging Dock is still a great value for personal and family entertainment. You get two Amazon devices for the price one. Not a bad deal!
