Mexico celebrated Day of the Dead over the weekend. There were large parades and graveside vigils, as well as public altars. This was the first Day of the Dead celebration since the pandemic.

Mexico's last year coronavirus outbreak caused a spike in deaths and made it impossible for Mexicans to visit their family burial grounds, avoid parades, and not attend public ofrendas (or altars to deceased loved ones) during this vibrant holiday.
Public ofrendas and parades will be back this year. Cemeteries have been reopened after Mexico's coronavirus infection rate continued to decline.
According to Johns Hopkins University's pandemic tracker, nearly 60% of Mexicans have had at least one dose.
